Flashing casino lights, Techno Chinese music, crispy fried chicken at 1 am – just another night out in Macau. Macau's been pretty lively ever since the Portuguese sailed into what the locals called A-Ma-Gao (the Bay of A-Ma, Taoist goddess of seafarers) in the early 1500s and began turning it into Med-meets-the-Orient-on-Sea. There's been tussles with the Chinese and several attempted invasions by pirates and the Dutch, until as recently as 1910, when the locals finally kicked them out. Though it may have long ago conceded the shopping crown to Hong Kong, Macau has never faltered when it comes to partying, from the 19th century pleasures of opium, prostitution, and gambling which drew Canton's taipans ("great traders") to its present day temptations – which still include prostitution and gambling just to show some things don't change. But Macau's brightest pleasures are simply its wonderful juxtapositions. On one hand, the fortresses, churches, and food of its former colonial master Portugal refer to a Mediterranean style on the China coast. On the other, Macau is akin to Las Vegas. During the past few years sleepy little Macau has experienced an economic boom, but rather than towering skyscrapers and commercial centers, the construction here is all about Vegas-style mega-casinos and hotels, such as Wynn and Venetian, to name a few. The reason, of course, is that casinos are legal in Macau, while in China and nearby Hong Kong they’re not. There is, however, much more to Macau than gambling. It’s the fusion of Mediterranean and Asian influences, lifestyles, and savory cuisine that make Macau an interesting and fun place to visit.

For someone who would want to go to an island beach where there's nothing but fine white sand, clear, calm water, white rocks and stones, and lots of trees, then Potipot Island is for you. Potipot (or Putipot ) is five-minute boat ride from the shore of Barangay Uacon, in the town of Candelaria, Zambales. Potipot Island is so small that you could go around the island within an hour or two, literally! There are no inns, hotels, restaurants, even electricity in the island. So for those who would want to have a serene place to hop in, where you could only hear the noise of the waves, the wind blowing, and the occasional chirping of the birds, then Potipot Island is the place to be.
